Brian Payne :
Director |
Brian's
reputation is one of technical excellence
worldwide. He has trained players from the
U.S.A., Finland, Sweden, Canada, Australia,
and Czech Republic. He is regarded by many
as one of the most influential and
motivating coaches for high school hockey
players. Former players of Brian have played
for preparatory schools such as Exeter
Academy, Philips Andover Academy, Deerfield
Academy, Avon Old Farms, and Governor Dummer
Academy to name a few. Coach Payne develops
his players into highly skilled, motivated
hockey players with a strong sense of
sportsmanship. Brian has a strong
relationship with various preparatory
schools, collegiate, and professional
organizations. |

John Butler
Head Coach : Marlborough High |
John's
coaching resume is full of accolades and
championships. As the head coach at
Marlborough High School for the last 19
seasons, the Panthers have captured the Roy
Conference Championship (2 yrs), Quinn
Conference Championship (3 yrs), and the
Midland Championship (2 yrs). Last year
Marlborough H.S. captured the Central Mass
Championship and played for the State
Championship, eventually losing to Bourne
High School in overtime. John's
understanding of the game and his ability to
relate to his players has helped John to
develop some of the finest players in the
game. West Point, Bowdoin, Babson and
Plasttsburgh State are just a few colleges
that Marlboro players have attended over the
years. |

Laurie Baker Mutch
|
Laurie's
hockey career is one that every aspiring
young female hockey player would dream of.
After a brilliant career at Lawrence
Academy, Laurie attended Providence College
where is exploded into stardom as she
totaled 48 points in 30 games and was named
the ECAC Rookie of the Year. In her second
season as a Friar, Laurie continued to
dominate the game, as she notched 68 points
in 29 games, finishing second in the ECAC in
scoring as just a sophomore. Following her
sophomore season, Laurie joined the U.S.
Women's National Team and participated in
the 1997 IIHF Women's World Championship
where she scored 2 goals and assisted on 4
others for a total of 6 points in 5 games.
For her accomplishments during her 1997
season with Friars and Team USA, Laurie was
named The USA Hockey Women's Player of the
Year. At the 1998 Olympic games, Laurie and
her teammates cap off a memorable year by
winning the Gold Medal at the Nagano Games.
In May of 2000, Laurie graduated from
Providence College and decided to take a
break from the game. However, as the 2002
Olympics approached in Salt Lake City, Utah,
Laurie came out of retirement and made the
US National Team and eventually lead her
team to a Silver Medal at the Olympic Games.
Currently, Laurie is the head coach at
Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA. Ice Works is
excited to have Laurie on our staff this
year. |

Rich Dempsey :
Strength and Conditioning Coach |
Rich
Dempsey is one of the top young coaches in
Prep-School hockey today. He is currently
the head coach at the St. George's School in
Newport, RI. Last year, St. George's had one
of the best years in recent school history,
finishing fifth in the New England Prep
School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC)
post-season tournament. Coach Dempsey played
collegiate hockey at Bowdoin College from
1992-1994. During his collegiate career at
Bowdoin, Coach Dempsey played in three ECAC
hockey championship games, winning the
Championship in 1993. As the teams captain
his senior year, he helped Bowdoin to its
first-ever NCAA tournament appearance,
recording one of the best records in the
college's history. |

Alex Moody
Instructor |
Success
has followed Alex throughout his brilliant
hockey career. Recently, Alex coached with
Andy Murray (Current Head Coach - LA Kings)
at Shattuck St. Mary's School in Fairbault,
MN. Last year, Alex accepted the head
coaching position at the Brooks School in
Andover, MA. In his first year Alex lead his
team to the New England Prep School
Tournament. As a player, Alex's career was
full of accomplishments. While playing in
the USHL for the Madison Capitals, he was
voted as the Player of the Year and the
team's MVP. At Colby College, Alex once
again was recognize for his brilliant play
as he was selected as an ECAC All-Star, Two
Time MVP, and was an Honorable Mention for
the All American Team. |

Tommy Menicci :
Director of On-Ice Programs |
Tommy
Menicci represents the type of player that
Ice Works strives to produce through its
camps. His outstanding career began at St.
Anselm College where he played four years of
varsity hockey and received numerous awards
and accolades. Following his days at St.
Anselm, Tommy embarked on a professional
career that continues to this day. From
1995-1997, Tommy played for the Huntington
Blizzard of the East Coast Hockey League.
His time in Huntington was capped by the
league naming him Defenseman of the Year for
the 1996-1997 season. Tommy credits much of
his success in Huntington to the coach of
the Blizzard, John Brophy, a former coach of
the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1997 Tommy
traveled to Arizona to play for the Phoenix
Mustangs of the West Coast Hockey League.
After a two-year tour of duty with the
Mustangs, he headed north and spent the
1999-2000 season playing for the Idaho
Steelheads of the WCHL. In Idaho, Tommy
played for former Buffalo Sabre goaltending
great Clint Malarchuk. Thee 2000-2001 season
saw Tommy return to the sough where he
patrolled the blue line for the Cotton kings
of the Western Professional Hockey League.
Again, he received top-notch coaching, this
time from former Dallas Stars Assistant
Coach Phil McDonald. During the 2002 season,
Tommy returned to his New England roots and
played for the New Haven Knights of the
United Hockey League. Leading Tommy and the
Knights during the past season was Paul
Gillis, a ten year N.H.L. veteran of the
Hartford Whalers and Quebec Nordiques.
Currently, Tommy is playing for the Quad
City Mallards in the United Hockey League,
where he's been an All-Star for the past two
seasons. |

Kevin Magnani Head
Coach : Worcester Academy |
Coach
Magnani's hockey career exploded at Holy
Cross in the early nineties where he was
awarded the teams 7th Player Award and
currently ranks 6th of all time in save
percentage and minutes played. Over the past
10 years, Coach Magnani has worked for the
Brett Harkin's Hockey School, Ed Walsh
Goaltending School and was the former
director at the Skills and Drills Hockey
School. Kevin is currently the head coach at
the Worcester Academy. |

Brian Akashian
: Assistant Coach : Holy Cross College |
Brian
comes to Ice Works "Elite Hockey Training"
after leading Holy Cross College to a 22-9-4
record, a first place finish in the Atlantic
Hockey Association and their first
appearance in the NCAA playoffs. Brian's
responsibility at Holy Cross includes:
recruiting and mainly focuses on the ice
with the special teams. During Akashian's
four-year career, he appeared in 102 games
for Holy Cross and helped lead the Brusaders
to the MAAC Championship in 1999. Following
his junior season, Akashian was named the
recipient of Crusader's Seventh Player
Award. Ice Works 'Elite Hockey Training'
scored when Brian decided to join our team.

Larry Rocha :

Larry
started his brilliant coaching career in
1987 as an assistant coach at Lawrence
Academy. In 1988, Larry was offered the head
coaching job at the Brooks School, where he
eventually turned a struggling program into
a New England Prep School Tournament team in
1993. Larry was then lured away by the
Berkshire School in 1996 to rebuild the
floundering Dev.I program. Within a 7 year
time frame, Larry rebuilt Berkshire into one
of the Elite Div.I programs winning the
league championship in 2001 and named Coach
of the Year in 2000-2001. Currently, Larry
coaches for the Valley Junior Warriors. |

Alan Langton :

Alan
Langton is another of the fine defensemen on
the Ice Works staff. Alan began his career
at the Bishop Connelly School in Freetown,
Massachusetts where he was twice named a
Hockey Night in Boston All-Scholastic and
three times received all league honors.
After starring at Bishop Connelly, Alan
matriculated to Concordi a University in
Montreal. He played four seasons at
Concordia and received a number of awards
for his tremendous play. In both his junior
and senior seasons Alan was named a Canadian
Interscholastic Athletic Union first team
all-star. He also received Academic
All-Canadian honors for both of those
seasons. During Alan's senior year, he was
named a finalist for the All-Canadian Award,
Canada's version of the Hobey Baker Award. |

Brett Peterson :

While
attending Cushing Academy, Brett led his
team to the New England Prep School
Championship in 1998 and to a very
impressive 30-3 record in 2000. During his
tenure at Cushing, he was named the “Best
Pro Prospect” at the 1998 Hockey Night in
Boston summer tournament and was also
selected to attend the Select 15, 16 and 17
USA festival camps. Following his stellar
prep school career, Brett played his college
hockey at Boston College. During his
freshman year, Brett and his teammates won
their first National Championship in 51years
by beating North Dakota in double overtime.
Currently, Brett is playing for the Florida
Everblades of the ECHL. |

Greg Gallagher :

Greg
Gallagher comes to Ice Works after a
brilliant career at Hobart and Williams
Smith College where he captained his team to
a 20-8 record, and the programs first NCAA
Division II tournament semifinals
appearance. Over Greg's four year career at
Hobart, his team established a winning
percentage of .646 (63-32-11), the best in
college history. Individually, Greg has
capture various awards including the most
prestige's award in Hockey as he was named
as an All-American following his senior
year. Currently, Greg is playing for the
Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) which is an
affiliate of the (NHL) Montreal Canadians. |

Chris Heaney

Coach
Heaney is another tremendous asset among the
Ice Works coaching staff. Currently, Chris
is the head coach at Framingham State
College after serving as an assistant coach
during the 2004-05 season when the Rams
advanced to the quarterfinals of the ECAC
Northeast Tournament. As the defensive coach
for the Rams, Coach Heaney’s defensive unit
only allowed 54 goals throughout the year,
ranking them 5th amongst the conference. The
Rams penalty kill unit was also tough to
penetrate as they also ranked 5th in the
conference. Chris also served as the Rams
ice hockey recruiting coordinator for the
2004-05 season. Heaney played his college
hockey at Norwich University. |

Kevin Zifcak :
Head Coach (Assumption College) |
Kevin
Zifcak is one the leading and most sought
after clinicians in the Northeast. Kevin
built Worcester Academy from a JV program to
a competitive Division II varsity program in
just 4 years. In 2004-2005, the Hilltoppers
compiled a 19-6-1 record at the varsity
level and appeared in the New England Prep
Division II semifinal game. Due to his
tremendous success at Worcester Academy;
Kevin was hired at Assumption College to
rebuild their hockey program. Kevin played
collegiate hockey at Bowdoin College. During
his fours years at Bowdoin, his Polar Bear
won 66% of their games compiling a record of
70-29-6, advancing to the ECAC Championship
game 3 years and to the NCAA National
Quarterfinals in 1997. |
